How to Replace an Oven Door Hinge

If your oven door isn't closing properly, and you can't see anything obstructing it on the inside - you've probably got a problem with the oven door hinges.

Over time the hinges can become less effective due to wear and tear, or you might have over-extended the oven door at some stage.

Whatever the reason though, if you need to replace the door hinges for your cooker, then you will be pleased to know that you have come to the right place!

If you are unsure where to start there’s no need to panic. We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the hinges without damaging your oven door.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice (Turn Off Your Cooker)

Switching The Cooker Power Supply Off From The Socket

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Door

First things first, we need to remove the door. If your hinge has only one lever you need to look for a catch, that when raised, prevents the hinges closing.

Lift this catch and slowly close the door - as the hinge locks the door will lift the hinges from the cabinet.

The door in this video attached has a double-lever hinge mechanism, on this type all you need to do is pull the little catch up, located on top of both hinges either side of the door.

This will lock the levers and you can gently lift the door free.

Step 3 - Replace The Hinges

Time to replace those hinges, simply remove the screws from the door, and you'll have access to the hinges.

After you have removed the old hinges, you just need to re-position the new hinges to where the old ones used to be.

Next, you need to lower the other half of the oven door that you have removed back into its place.

All that is left to do now is screw it back together again - and you now have a fully formed door, complete with new working hinges!

Step 4 - Fit The Door On Your Oven

So far so good…now time to get the door back on the front of your oven. You need to cock back the hinges into their latch (If required you can use a tea-towel to protect your hands)

You will notice that there is a little notch on the hinge, and this needs to rest on the oven frame - so that you can be sure that the door is positioned correctly.

Once you have the door in its correct position, it needs to be opened completely, so that you can reset the latches to their original position.

Once done you can now close your oven door.

Congratulations - you have now successfully been able to replace the hinges on your oven door! You can now get back to creating your tasty meals at dinner time again.
